Name Place Animal Thing is a Mumbai-based design practice that crafts furniture, lights, installations, and decor with a creative twist. Founded in 2020 by Priyam Doshi, the studio draws inspiration from people, places, animals, and everything around us. Working alongside architects, interior designers, and manufacturers, they blend Indian sensibilities with a mix of new, natural, and recycled materials, while exploring fresh processes and techniques.

What was the inspiration behind this versatile cabinet?

I wanted to break away from typical, boxy storage units that serve only one

purpose. In today’s urban lifestyle, multi-functional furniture that adds extra value is a must. That idea sparked the creation of the Moose cabinet, where playful, ‘FUNctional’ design takes centre stage.

What design challenges did you face?

The main challenges were achieving balanced proportions, optimising storage, and integrating multiple functions with plug-and-play accessories. The design includes antlers for hanging items, a bowl for small essentials, mirrors, a book tray, and mixed shelves for display and storage. Push-to-open shutters use the moose’s eye as a knob, revealing a striking green-stained interior.

What makes the Moose cabinet unique?

The main structure is crafted from White Ash wood for strength and durability,

while the mix of wood, mirror, and powder-coated steel in the accessories adds contrast. Designed as a statement piece, it fits contemporary, eclectic, and minimal interiors, yet its handcrafted warmth works well in traditional or rustic spaces too. Its uniqueness comes from this smart blend of materials and versatility.
